While traveling between CA, Istanbul and his hometown, Dr. Bagis had the opportunity to contribute to the small university in his hometown and his hometown’s economy. He served as head of the Economics Department, as well as head of the multi-disciplinary Islamic Economics program, and the Economic Policies sub-division; served as the university and faculty’s Scientific Committees member, executive and administrative boards member of the faculty and the social sciences institute.

  • Pioneered in tens of firsts in the city, the university and the FEASs: including but not limited to the first TUBITAK supported academic activity, first internationally supported academic activity, first academic journal (international), first workshops, first conferences, prepared European projects, contributed to establishment of the PILOT university project, first weekly seminar series (EkoFin), first free English support courses (Academic English Practice Sessions), new international agreements, working paper series etc.
  • Econ department: As the head of the Economics Department, led a comprehensive renewal process in all aspects of teaching, research, communication, collaborations and management of the department
  • Islamic Econ department: As the head of the Interdisciplinary Islamic Economics graduate program (head of the department starting from the first year of education); kicked off a comprehensive start-up process in all aspects of teaching, research, communication, collaborations and management of the department
  • University’s First TUBITAK supported Academic Activity

  • BU Pilot University project (PIKOM): Contributed with 4 different projects (almost 10% of all the projects in the university) to the earlier stages, writing, submission and the establishment of PIKOM

  • A new road map related to education abroad and personal development was presented to the benefit of the students who may be interested; meanwhile a brand-new reading list proposal was prepared for students, from the first year till their graduation
  • For the first time, in the university, there were practical applications for enrichment of educational and academic activities by inviting guests from outside the country, outside the city and outside the university; as well as visiting tours to local and outside the city institutions, business and companies
